Bachelet supports changes in the law regarding directors and scriptwriters’ author’s rights so that the creators of audiovisual works can earn royalties for the broadcast of their work.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President Michelle Bachelet received in La Moneda a group of audiovisual artists who demand that their author’s right is recognized, as it happens with musicians and actors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Filmmakers such as Ricardo Larrain (La frontera (The frontier), Andr\u00e9s Wood (Historias de f\u00fatbol (Soccer stories), Machuca, Violeta se fue a los cielos (Violeta went to heavens), Jorge L\u00f3pez (El \u00faltimo grumete (The last cabin boy), Patagonia de los sue\u00f1os (Dream Patagonia) and Cristian Leighton (El corredor (The runner), Patiperros) participated in \u00a1ACCI\u00d3N!<\/strong>, a meeting of directors and scriptwriters held in the National Film Archive with 150 people present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the event, some of the participants met with the President to request the amendment of section three of law 20.243 regarding the remuneration right. “The President was very aware of our demand and told us that although the path may be long, I quote, there is water in the pool. We are very happy”, said Ricardo Larrain as he came out of the meeting where the President showed her support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting in the National Film Archive was also attended by representatives of international groups, such as the Argentine Eliseo Subiela, director of Hombre mirando al sudeste (Man looking Southeast); Marcelo Pi\u00f1eyro, Vice President of CISAC<\/a>– Confederaci\u00f3n Internacional de Autores y Compositores (International Confederation of Authors and Composers); Carlos Galettini, President of DAC<\/a>-Directores Argentinos Cinematogr\u00e1ficos (Argentina Film Directors); Horacio Maldonado, General Secretary of DAC-Directores Argentinos Cinematogr\u00e1ficos (Argentina Film Directors) and Vice President of ADAL<\/a>– Asociaci\u00f3n de Directores de Am\u00e9rica Latina (Latin America Directors Association); and Spanish Jos\u00e9 Luis Acosta, President SGAE<\/a>-Sociedad General de Autores de Espa\u00f1a (General Association of Authors of Spain).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CISAC:<\/strong> The active participation of the Direcci\u00f3n Regional para Latinoam\u00e9rica de la Confederaci\u00f3n Internacional de Sociedades de Autores y Compositores (Regional Office for Latin America of the International Confederation of Authors and Composers) under the responsibility of Chilean Dr. Santiago Schuster in addition to the presence of the Vice President of this organization, Argentine filmmaker Marcelo Pi\u00f1eyro made it possible to enjoy a large international attendance, expressly supported by Congreso Internacional de Creadores (International Creators Congress) Writers & Directors Worldwide.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open debate about the experience of the countries where author\u00b4s rights are recognized, and there are collective management societies operating.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

In Chile, there is no regulation regarding the benefits directors and scriptwriters have over the use of their works. Contrary to what happens with actors and musicians, who are protected. The situation is still controversial, considering that the latter are part of the audiovisual productions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Distinguised professionals and national and international filmmakers gathered at the meeting and exchanged experiences, considering the need to enforce audiovisual author’s rights laws in the rest of Latin America and Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this regard, the director of the series El Ni\u00f1o Rojo (The red kid), Ricardo Larrain, said that the meeting will be useful to account for an “absurd situation” which discussion has been constantly postponed: “audiovisual directors and scriptwriters’ rights are a pending issue. It is incomprehensible that the main generators of audiovisual content do not have rights over their creative work, without which there would be no production.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the documentary maker Cristian Leighton emphasized that the no recognition of the rights is an exclusion of the filmmakers to works that not only are part of the cultural identity of a country, but also of the economic asset. All of the above is supported by Jorge L\u00f3pez, who adds the economic factor, since authors are not paid for their intellectual rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In view of this situation, the international meeting: \u201c\u00a1ACCI\u00d3N!<\/strong> Jornada de Directores y Guionistas\u201d (ACTION. Directors and Scriptwriters Conference) was held. The activity took place on Tuesday, October 14th, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., in the Auditorium of the National Film Archive of Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
